James Scott, interview with Michael Fairman, June 18, 2010

  • James Scott: Alison is just wonderful. I can’t think of a better way to spend your time than kissing Alison Sweeney. It’s just a perfect way to spend an afternoon. And if things do go south, then that will be the one thing I will miss most.

A Classic WhoDunit - Stefano Dimera Turns Up "Dead" on June 4th

Stefano Dimera (Joe Mascolo) has been terrorizing the residents of Salem and particularly the Brady family for over 30 years. His latest stunt almost killed John, Marlena, Bo, and Hope. (I won't mention the other two who were almost killed in the same explosion because quite honestly I'm sad Stefano didn't succeed.) On June 4, Stefano will turn up dead of a gunshot wound and just about everyone in Salem has a reason to have delivered the fatal shot.  Let's take a look at the long list of suspects.

1 - Abe Carver.   Lexie is dying and according to Abe it's all Stefano's fault.  If Stefano hadn't allowed   Andre to run around Salem, Lexie would never have been held captive in the poison filled tunnels.  The cops discover Abe's gun in the Mansion after the shooting.

2 - Lexie Carver.  She's dying and she has to leave behind her autistic child and if she follows Abe's logic it's all Stefano's fault. I'd want to kill him too if I were her.

3 - Kate Roberts - Kate's a slut.  Let's be realistic.  Not only is she a slut, but she's a devious slut and she's no stranger to planning people's deaths and carrying out those plans. Countess Wilhelmina was a big deal to Kate and she felt as if she had been robbed of it.  Kate's tried to murder for less than that.  Kate's fingerprints are also found on the gun in the mansion.

4 - EJ Dimera - Of course EJ is evil enough to do it (so says all you EJ haters! I do NOT agree).  And EJ does pull a gun on Stefano prior to the deadly shooting, but he cannot pull the trigger and leaves without having shot Stefano.  Or did he?

5 - John, Marlena, Bo, Hope, Roman.  These people have all the same reasons for wanting to kill Stefano so I listed them together.  Jarlena and Bope have had their lives wrecked multiple times by Stefano Dimera and you can't really blame them for wanting the guy dead.

6 - Will Horton.  Poor Will.  The kid has been through some serious emotional stuff lately.  Not only did he come out to his parents, but Will also confessed that he deliberately let Rafe overheard him telling Sonny about Ej and Sami's grief sex. Will did this because Stefano threatened him. Now Stefano knows Will confessed to EJ and I'm sure Steffie wasn't happy about it.  Interestingly enough it's Will who is eventually arrested for Stefano's death.

Who do you think will be guilty of "killing" Stefano? Are you glad Stefano is finally getting what he deserves? The rumor is Joe Mascolo is leaving the show so it's possible Stefano's "death" will stick.

  1. My vote is for Lexie.

I know Joe Mascolo is reportedly leaving 'Days', but I sure hope he is not leaving forever. I just cannot imagine 'Days' without him and his character Stefano Dimera.
I have been a 'Days' fan for over 35 years, and Stefano has been the best villan to ever hold a reign of terror over a whole show. If they do kill him off, I will miss Stefano and Joe Mascolo, the man who brings the character to life.

  2. There has not been a better villain on any show. But he is tired and boring.

I remember when Victor was a villain then he mellowed out. I think that its fine when Stefano comes and goes. Its perfectly acceptable. This allows other stories to be told.

With stefano on the screen, he has to always be scheming and there is only so much he can do before you just roll your eyes.

    1. They need to stop protecting their "stars" or cultivate substantial enough relationships with others so that there is a reason for someone like Madison, or Lucas to kill Stephano. I notice Nicole is not among the suspects but she has great motive. It would also get her off the canvas for a while if she's really pregnant. Gabi would be ideal to have murdered Stephano to protect Will. Unfortunately, her character is quite derailed and not really adding anything worthy these days. This would also be a way of getting rid of Madison/Sarah Brown who is talented, but put in a storyline that couldn't get momentum and was overkilled by complications. Austin could also have done it for various reasons and this would get rid of his insipid new character this round, and free up Carrie to return to Rafe (way more interesting). Since they keep getting rid of Jack, they could pin it on Jack and later figure out he was covering for someone else and release him when the writers clue in they need him and learn how to write for a quirky but deep and lovable guy who has nothing to do! Caroline would be an interesting suspect ever since she switched Chloe's baby paternity tests. She clearly will take some things into her own hands/risk to protect those she loves. The Hernandez family is not working out... has anyone noticed? Just when we started to warm up to ARiana they killed her off, and then I started to really like her kid brother and they shipped him off to Argentina. If Stephano is really dead, this is really really really disappointing. After years of great story are they really going to write him out in this weak anti-climactic ending? Of course, Maggie could have shot Stephano if she found out he'd taken one of her eggs and kept a son from her (EJ). The EJ not being a diMira is a stupid twist. Since Lexi is going you could pin the murder on her,but it's not in character. It IS in Celeste's character but again, nothing's been established enough FOR any suspect. Think back on the Salem stalker.... no one knew who... and there was "suspense". Where is the "suspense" here? It's just another short story arc grab for attention with poorly planned/plotted lead up and nothing established to make us really suspect anyone... or care. What a waste of brilliant characters. If Mascalo wants to retire they could have at least written a good story.... and his demise would have been one we could have watched, sitting on the edge of our seats for 6 months because we do love to hate the man. Anti-climactic doesn't begin to describe it. No, Ian McAllister cannot be the imported villain. Maybe this is why they're wrecking Victor and Maggie so Victor can be villainous again? But both actors were SO good with Kate and Maggie... that was really enjoyable. There is no candidate (except EJ) to make evil at this point. It would have to be someone wealthy with power and a backstory of hate toward the Brady's and Horton's... maybe Carly or Daniel could kill Stephano... but truly, I hope the Phoenix will somehow rise from the ashes and so will the writers. This show has a lot of talent and obviously the focus is lost at a time when GOOD story and SUSPENSE and invested audience will help save a show that has YEARS of history. Or did they just hire writers to help mess it up so we don't care when they cancel it?

  3. So that explains why they brought Ian McAllister back. They need a villain to replace Stefano. Can't say I'm sad he's dead (yeah, I know it's a show, but it's about time) he was evil. Just too bad he didn't suffer more lol.

    1. The actor who plays Ian McAllister is a terrible actor and doesn't fit with Kate at all! Speaking of Ian...where are Brady and Madison?

    2. I agree with you! Ian is awful and I'm glad he's leaving Salem. And I'm thrilled Madison's on her way out too. Great decision on Days' part. I do miss the days when I enjoyed Brady. But since Madison, I mostly fast forward him.

  4. I think Will did it because my Tv guide said so. And I think its time for a new villan anyway. With nobody else knowing EJ is not actually stephano's son its his turn to take over and with Will being his "father's" killer and all of the bradys being suspects in his murder he would have reason to hate the bradys and want them dead.

  5. Please don't let it be true Stephano is a great character. There is only one person who could ever play him Joe Mascolo.

  6. the killer was shown wearing gloves and a dark coat. EJ was the only one shown wearing both. Bo, John, Abe and Will were wearing a dark coat, but I think the sleeves were different. I assume that DOOL will assume that we didn't notice that stuff and it will be someone else....I like the Lexie idea, because she would think that Abe would do it and would not want him to go to jail...and since she is dying... I don't know, still think it looked like EJ...however...I think perhaps Chad protests too much????

  7. Ian McAllister won't be taking over as Salem's villain because the character was cut from the show a few weeks back. I can't say I'm sorry to see Ian go. He was pointless.

I AM sad to see Joe Mascolo go but he wanted to retire and I think he was extremely unhappy with the storylines he was being given. So good for him for saying to hell with it. Lol.

I think the killer will be someone we won't suspect. What about Melanie? The actress is leaving the show too and Melanie was unhappy about Chad wanting to get closer to his Dimera family. Or what about Ian? He's just a classic loser. They could find a reason to make him want Stefano dead. Or how about Rafe? Stefano's done tons to him too. Or Sami? She just found out Stefano blackmailed Will and destroyed her marriage.

Whoever it was is a coward. All that smack talk to Steffie's face but the killer shot him in the back! Not cool. Whoever did that deserves life behind bars.

  8. I think it was a female, either Marlena or Lexie, but I am thinking Lexie

    1. I agree. Lexie is my first choice. Then Ian. I think the killer has got to be someone that can be removed from the show, right? I mean, the killer shot Stefano in the back! They can't claim self defense so it's an automatic life (or death!) sentence. Maybe Melanie. Now that would be fun!

  9. I think that Stefano poisoned his own drink. Pretty strange that he played his music really loud. When he was shot, his hand was already over his heart.
No autopsy results were used ad evidence, unless I missed something.
Lexie could've poisoned his carafe during the luncheon too.

  10. I'm just sick that Stefano is dead. A lot of characters can be written out of the show and nothing will really change. As popular as Patch was back in the day, the show went on without him. But to lose Stefano? No one can take his place. Frankly I won't watch the show without him. I am not going to choose anyone, because I can't bear to think that anyone could have killed him.

  11. I agree...I say Lexie did it because Stefano was the cause of her illness and taking her away from her loved ones. But I don't think we will know for some time yet...they will play this story for awhile.

  13. It was Marlena his Queen Of The Night. She has a previous record of shooting at/or actually hitting her target being him. Also check previous episodes where Marlena goes to see Stefano, opera music most of the time plays, so the opera music was playing at his shooting, it was Marlena.
